Welcome to Lateral Thinking! I’ve been writing about the NFL in some capacity for over 20 years — from Football Outsiders to FTN, Bleacher Report to PlaySheet, to more defunct sites than you can shake a stick at. And finally, it’s time to stretch out and get my own space. Excuse the dust while I decide on the curtains.

For those new, welcome! I write about stats, about historical trends and rankings, about playoff scenarios and unlikely outcomes, about uniforms and scheduling, and a whole mishmash of other topics. Back at Football Outsiders, we called it Scramble for the Ball. Here, we’re calling it Lateral Thinking — what better way to describe the weird combination of jokes, references, stats and history that run through my brain on a constant loop?
